1940s Entryway Remodel

October 25, 2021

My entry is no grand foyer at all. It’s actually a vestibule that was added onto my home in the 1940s. At least that’s what I assume based on a matchbook I found in the walls.

This tiny area is filled with massive amounts of wallpaper and cream everything with no sha-bang! Let me show you..starting with that wallpaper!

Wallpaper. And lots of it. It’s muted gray with mini polka dot sized flowers in different shades of pink, yellow, white and green. And the once perfect touch of green leaves. An overwhelming touch.

Cream everything. Cream doors. Cream baseboards. Cream ceiling. Cream window trim that looks more like casing. Cream 4.5″ x 4.5″ tiles. This all had to be changed!

The only thing that was worth saving were the gold accents (lamp and doorknobs). You know what else I saved. The original beautiful, original oak floors that were hiding under this tile.

There was so much that needed to be done that I can’t put it all in once post. Follow along so you can see how this space is transformed and I’ll even you how you can tackle your entryway too.

You don’t want to miss the after!

Meet Michelle

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am a self-taught woodworker, DIYer and plant lover. I'll thank COVID-19 for the plant loving part. My DIY and woodworking journey started in Fall 2018 after I purchased my old 1880s home. I started with building furniture that I didn't want to purchase from a store. From there, my building spiraled into creating custom projects for others. I now spend time building and also renovating my home. My goal is to show you that you can do it too! You can read more under the 'Meet Michelle' tab.

🗣Listen!! Spraying outdoors isn’t always an o 🗣Listen!! Spraying outdoors isn’t always an option. This summer heat and humidity is a no-go for me and this paint. But you know I’m not letting that stop me.

Best part is that this paint protection is less than $5 and be reused. A tarp will last a lot longer but heavier. And don’t forget to protect your floors!

TRUE STORY😂 Do you see my confusion? My husba TRUE STORY😂

Do you see my confusion?

My husband bought a new AC unit and didn’t want to screw the window guard on. He insists it’s not because he doesn’t know how, he just didn’t want to read the instructions (🙄). Ps- no instructions needed to be read.

So we traded. He cleaned my garden mess. I spent 2 mins putting the guard in place. #balance 😅

Anyone else confused when seeing someone paint fur Anyone else confused when seeing someone paint furniture drawers in place? I was too. But I’m no pro. I could see it def made the job easier so I figured I’d try.

I kept the old knobs that I was replacing on one side of the drawers so that I could open them before the paint dries. I was concerned about the drawers sticking but now I know they weren’t. I’m going to hold onto these knobs to use for future pieces where I may be saving the knobs. Ill go back and use a brush to paint the drawer edges. I could’ve done it with my sprayer but I’m still trying to figure that out. Maybe next time!

Disclaimer: While I’m not new to DIY, this is my first furniture flip! I’m excited to share what I learn w/ you 💞
